LEADERSHIP CHRONICLES

It’s not easy being a leader.  I mean it looks good, seems easy but leadership is taxing, overwhelming, exhausting and it is a hat worn 24/7.  When one thinks about leaders, one tends to see or view people in power able to do whatever he or she desires; one may tend to view a leader as above reproach, above authority or better than the rest.  To a degree this view can be accurate.  As a leader may be the head of a company and because of that position, he or she may be above authority because they are the authority.  As the owner of a company he or she sets the tone for the business; however every leader answers to someone directly or indirectly.

The business man or woman mentioned above may own the company but he or she is accountable to those who work for them to ensure that all laws of payroll, etc… are followed, that there is a place of employment for them to return to each day.  He or she answers to any banks that may have loaned the money for business.   There isn’t a substitute for accountability and leaders are held accountable more than most realize.  It is the pressure of being a leader that can make leaders buckle or bend.  To be a regular person with extraordinary skills, talents, ideas and information is never easy.  However, it is that combination of skillset which makes one a leader; along with a person’s ability to see things differently from most.  And while a person can be an excellent leader it doesn’t mean he or she excels in all area or things.  In fact a leader who can move thousands and impress the masses can still overlook and ignore the simple things; this doesn’t take away from his or her ability it just makes that leader human, vulnerable able to make mistakes and/or have bad judgment.

Leadership is always needed.  I don’t care who you are or what you do, there is someone to whom you look to for advice, approval, information and sometimes a combination of all three.  At the same time you respect a leader and his or her roles, be mindful to allow leadership to be human and able to err.  Not doing so can become a form of worship, or a level of expectancy impossible for anyone to achieve or master.

Within each of us lies the ability to lead or leadership skills, not all can lead thousands.  Some are destiny to only lead a few maybe even just one, his or herself; while others have the capability to lead so many more.  Whatever you skillset be true to it.  Lead who and where you can, seek leadership where and when you need it.
