Reflections are really guides for moving from one point in your life to the next. Too often people move from state-to-state, meaning from one state of mind to the next without reviewing, understanding or growing. You can move from thing to thing but life tends to occur in patterns for all of us. Knowing your personal growth patterns is the key for development. We learn move and develop in increments and every one’s increments of learning are different. To identify your pattern, your way of processing the world and the things encountered is the difference between ‘things happening to you and you handling the situations of life without falling apart’.
Reflections allow one to learn his or her patterns of behavior and reaction. It’s easy to see what others have done to you; it’s far more difficult to determine if you allowed it to happen. That could sound harsh and in no way am I saying that everything one goes through is his or her fault; nor am I saying that bad things only happen to those who deserve it. That’s far from the truth. While one cannot change or alter all that he or she encounters, he or she can determine the way the information is processed and used that processing for future reference points.
History tends to repeat itself, in the world and personally. Actions and/or reactions tend to be repetitive and if there is a downfall, personality flaw or trait that can be destructive it will repeat until one makes a conscious effort to change his or her response, actions or reactions. Reflections make the change possible and therefore relevant. Without reflection one will easily continue ‘bad or poor’ behavioral patterns regardless of the situation or circumstances. Reflections provide a sober look at the worse possible scenarios and provide a fresh take, a new method for handling the bad times.
Reflections build character. Personality jumps out, it’s the first response but character is dignified, refined and emotion controlled responses that make one stronger for the experience. Reflections allow one to be and remain relevant, because he or she continues to learn and mature.
Take time to reflect. If you continue finding yourself in situations that are less than great or feel targeted in situations, reflect. Reflections bring about clearer sight allowing you to see those around you, those who influence you, those with whom you have influence and the way you affect one another. Reflections making one relevant can also make one wiser.
